Aaliyah (Aaliyah Dana Haughton, January 16, 1979 – August 25, 2001) was an American singer, actress, dancer, and model from Brooklyn, New York, raised in Detroit, Michigan. She began performing at age four. Her debut album, “Age Ain’t Nothing But a Number” (1994), was released through her uncle’s Blackground Records. 

Known as the “Princess of R&B” and “Queen of Urban Pop,” Aaliyah is recognized for influencing contemporary R&B, pop, and hip hop. Her second album, “One in a Million” (1997), featured collaborations with Timbaland and Missy Elliott. 

She acted in films such as “Romeo Must Die” (2000) and “Queen of the Damned” (2002). 

Aaliyah died in a plane crash on August 25, 2001, at age 22, after filming a music video in the Bahamas. The crash was fatal for her and others on board. Her music and influence are still celebrated.
